I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion."

http://bible.com/114/exo.34.6-8.nkjv And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, "The Lord , the Lord  God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the  guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation." So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.

http://bible.com/114/rom.9.15-16.nkjv For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion." So then it  is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

Mercy is not getting what you deserve.

For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Ask God for mercy.
